The Heartland Chapter of The Academy of Certified Hazardous Materials Managers traces it’s beginning to the Institute of Hazardous Materials Management’s publication of their 1990 – 1991 Directory of Certified Hazardous Materials Managers in mid-summer 1990. This directory indicated that both PSI/Hall Kimbrell Environmental Services, Inc. and FMC Corporation had CHMM’s employed in their Lawrence, Kansas facilities. These CHMM’s became acquainted and began “Chapter” discussions in September 1990.
and so it began-
- Perusal of the IHMM Directory indicated there may be a sufficient number of CHMM’s in the Eastern Kansas/Western Missouri area to warrant formation of a local chapter.
- Environmental Professionals in the Eastern Kansas/Western Missouri area were invited to attend a December 5, 1990 meeting to explore “Local Chapter” potential.
- Twelve Eastern Kansas/Western Missouri Environmental Professionals responded to the invitation to hear Rich Cartwright, (then) President-Elect of the Academy of Certified Hazardous Materials Managers and Chairman of the Local Chapter Development Committee present the “CHMM Story” and develop a path forward.
and so it goes (and grows)-
- 1992- Obtained national charter as Eastern Kansas/Western Missouri Chapter of the Academy of Certified Hazardous Materials Managers.
- 1992- Developed CHMM Review Course and Exam Program with University of Kansas Department of Continuing Education.
- 1993- Incorporated as Heartland Chapter of the Academy of Certified Hazardous Materials Managers and adopted bylaws.
- 1996- Support development of the Mid-America Chapter of the Academy of Certified Hazardous Materials Managers – move spring review course and exam to Wichita.
- 1999- Host Chapter for the 13th Annual Conference in Kansas City, MO
