About Us

In 1995, Academy of Hazardous Materials Management (ACHMM), today known as the Alliance of Hazardous Materials Professionals™, was incorporated as an independent 501(c)(3) nonprofit membership organization. Today, through an affiliation agreement, AHMP and IHMM work together to guarantee the success of individual CHMMs and the CHMM® program.

In December 2008, the ACHMM membership voted to change the name of the organization to the Alliance of Hazardous Materials Professionals (AHMP).

The Heartland Chapter is located in  Kansas City Metropolitan Area. The mission of the Heartland Chapter is to provide professional association activities for CHMMs and Associates in the “Heartland of America.” Activities are designed to create opportunities for professional development, networking, and technology exchange; coordinating CHMM review courses and examinations; and promoting the recognition of the CHMM certification as the accepted standard for the profession.

The AHMP is a membership organization dedicated to fostering professional development and focused on becoming the recognized global leader and resource for hazardous materials professionals through continuing education, peer group interaction, the exchange of ideas and information relating to hazardous materials management. AHMP is comprised of 52 Chapters with over 4,000 members in 37 States, the District of Columbia, and India. The AHMP is the only national organization devoted to the professional advancement of the hazardous materials management field.

The AHMP also is the membership organization for individuals who have successfully completed the education, experience, and testing requirements necessary to become a Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM). The CHMM program is administered by the Institute of Hazardous Materials Management (IHMM).

The AHMP envisions a world where the natural environment is unburdened by pollution; workers are exposed only to healthy and safe conditions; and hazardous materials are used and transported safely and efficiently. As it has for more than two decades, the AHMP works to advance the field of hazardous materials management to make its vision a reality. Its core purpose is to foster a community of professionals and to jointly advocate for the public recognition of the value of the Certified Hazardous Material Manager® (CHMM®) credential and other EHS&S credentials, the standards they represent and the professionals who uphold them.

Purpose:

We support the professionals who properly manage substances that are harmful to human health and the environment, thereby making our world a safer and healthier place to live and work.

Vision:

Mission:

To provide opportunities to gain and share knowledge about hazardous materials management, create gathering places (communities) and a voice for professionals with common interests in hazardous materials management and provide management support for smaller communities of hazardous materials professionals.
